A long-time Croatian journalist and editor, Vedrana Simičević is also a psychologist by education. As a journalist she is specialized in science, social issues and social phenomena’s like migration, nationalism, xenophobia, democracies and different field stories. Other topics of interest include culture and outdoor sports. Recently she started contributing to the international media, including Science and New Scientist.
This year she won the national award “Velebitska degenija” for the best journalistic work in the field of environmental protection (for the feature story published in Science). in 2017 she was shortlisted for the European Science Writer of the Year award (by the Association of British Science Writers) and chosen as one of the best science writers in Balkan (by the Balkan Network of Science Journalists). As editor, she has been in charge of a variety of the news sections, mainly of lifestyle, science or “long read” character. She is also one of the founding members of Croatian Association of Science Writers and a board member of Balkan Network of science journalists.
