Svend-Erik Skaaning profileSvend-Erik Skaaning is professor of political science at Aarhus University, Denmark. He is project manager (former co-principal investigator) for Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem), consultant for the Global State of Democracy Indices by International IDEA, and principal investigator for the Lexical Index of Electoral Democracy and the Civil Liberty Dataset.

His research interests include comparative methodology and the conceptualisation, measurement, causes, and consequences of democracy and the rule of law.

He has published extensively on these issues in academic journals and books with Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, Johns Hopkins University Press, Routledge, and Palgrave.
