Katariina Salmela-Aro is an Academy Professor in the Department of Educational Sciences and Psychology at the University of Helsinki, Finland, and a visiting Professor at the Institute of Education of the University College London, Australian Catholic University Sydney, and the School of Education at Michigan State University. She is the director of several ongoing longitudinal studies among young people. Her key research themes are digitalization, school engagement, burnout, optimal learning moments, experience sampling, the life-span model of motivation, and related interventions. She is a Member of Academia Europaea and of The Finnish Academy of Science and Letters. She is an Associate Editor of the European Psychologist journal. She is a member of the large-scale EU-granted EuroCohort aiming to the development of a Europe-wide longitudinal survey of child and youth well-being.
