Francois Bastardie

François Bastardie is a Senior Scientist at DTU Aqua, part of the Technical University of Denmark. He holds a PhD in Biological Science and has over 15 years of experience in fisheries science.

Dr. Bastardie has published more than 60 peer-reviewed papers. His work focuses on assessing fisheries management and testing scenarios to understand their impact on the economy and sustainability of fisheries. He often reviews past and future EU policies, with a focus on how resilient and adaptable the fishing sector is.

He is involved in policymaking, as a member of the EU’s Scientific, Technical, and Economic Committee for Fisheries (STECF). He also leads Alma Maris Consulting, analyzing the effects of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and protecting vulnerable marine ecosystems (VMEs).
