For a social approach to the transition to smart cities

A smart city is a place where digital technology is used to make networks and services more efficient for the benefit of its inhabitants and businesses. But as this transition to smart cities has very much increased in the last years, it is also necessary to pay attention to the costs and risks that come with it.

STOA published a study in 2023 which broadly explores the many possible impacts of such a transition, particularly from a social point of view, in order to identify the policy measures that could mitigate such risks and to promote practices that allow for a socially responsible transition.
