Scientist: Marion Koopmans

ESMH Scientist Prof. Marion KoopmansProf. Marion Koopmans, born 1956, DVM, PhD, WHO-advisor, is Head of the Department of Viroscience at the University Medical Center Erasmus, Rotterdam, the Netherlands. In addition, she is a Professor of Public Health Virology at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam. Marion Koopmans is a veterinarian by training, with specialization in internal diseases and a PhD in virology. She has worked in academic veterinary and human medicine, as well as public health with a 3 year stay at the US Centers for Disease Control in veterinary. Her research focus is on infectious diseases, foodborne diseases, Noroviruses, veterinary medicine. Since March 2020, Professor Koopmans is member of the European Commission`s Scientific Advisory team on COVID-19, composed of virologists and epidemiologists from different EU Member States to formulate EU guidelines on science-based and coordinated risk management measures.
