He is a specialist in Public Health Medicine and has been a policy adviser for the last thirty years. His main research has been on monitoring health, surveillance of disease and European Integration and now is on Global Health Europe. He served e.g. on the European Advisory Committee on Health Research (EACHR) of WHO Europe and on the Expert Panel on ‘Investing in Health’ for the European Commission.
