Francesco Forastiere profileFrancesco Forastiere, MD, Ph.D, is with the National Research Council (CNR) in Palermo (Italy) and is visiting professor at Imperial College, London. He has served for 37 years as a public health officer the Department of Epidemiology, Lazio Region Health Service, Rome.

With a medical background in respiratory and occupational medicine, he holds a Master of Science in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and a Ph.D. in Epidemiology from Linköping University in Sweden. He has conducted studies on the health effects of various environmental and occupational exposures.

Professor Forastiere has been a temporary adviser for World Health Organization/Geneva/Bonn and IARC/Lyon on several occasions. He also acted as Chief Editor of the Italian Journal of Epidemiology (Epidemiologia & Prevenzione) and Associate Editor of Environmental Health. He has concentrated on applying scientific research findings to diverse public health issues. His work includes studies on air pollution, radon, and waste disposal. He has also investigated occupational exposures to silica and asbestos, as well as the effects of environmental tobacco smoke.
