Leen D'Haenens

Leen D'Haenens Leen d’Haenens is a Professor at the Institute for Media Studies of KU Leuven and the Project Coordinator of Youth Skills (ySKILLS). ySKILLS investigates the new skill sets needed to benefit from ever more digitised environments and aims at enhancing and maximising the long-term positive impact of the digital environment. Her research interests touch upon European media policy and its impact on citizens, measuring news diversity, and young people and (social) media use, with a focus on vulnerable youth with a migration background. She combines quantitative and qualitative methods in multi-site comparisons in migration research in the H2020 projects HumMingBird (on enhanced migration measures) and Opportunities (for a fair narrative on migration). She is editor of Communications (De Gruyter) and associate editor of The International Communication Gazette (Sage). She is a member of the Euromedia Research Group​.
