Kalina Bontcheva

Kalina Bontcheva Professor Kalina Bontcheva (F) researches misinformation and rumour analysis, social media mining and summarisation, information extraction, and text summarization. Kalina is a world leading expert on rumour detection and veracity, and currently the scientific director of the H2020 WeVerify project. She previously coordinated the PHEME FP7 project on computing veracity of social media content, which was amongst the first projects world-wide to investigate machine learning methods for detection and analysis of online disinformation. In December 2017 Kalina gave oral evidence at the UK DCMS parliamentary committee enquiry on fake news. She is also currently a deputy-coordinator of the SoBigData research infrastructure project, as well as being on the Steering Board of the ELG (European Language Grid) project. Previously she led the Sheffield team in the COMRADES project, which delivered methods for analysing crises-related online misinformation.
