Ferenc Jakab : Professor of Virology at the University of Pécs; Vice-Dean for Science of the Faculty of Science; Scientific Director of the Szentágothai Research Centre; Head of the Department of Genetics and Molecular Biology and Leader of the Virological Research Group / BSL-4 Laboratory. Pathogens causing severe epidemics are emerging more frequently thanks to global activities. One of our research focus is to identify well-known and new pathogens in samples originating from anywhere in the World thanks to our extensive international collaboration network. We intend to monitor their prevalence, characterize their genetic background. As the only university based BSL-4 laboratory in the country we do research with high pathogenic viruses. Mechanism of viral infections, molecular pathomechanism of viruses as well as development of new antivirals are the most important activities of the research group.-
