The PAUSE programme, a powerful tool for defending academic freedom

Laura LOHEAC interview: view of the front of the Temple of Artemis in Athens, an architectural masterpiece from ancient Greek times

Since 2017, the PAUSE programme has been inviting researchers and artists to France. All of them have one thing in common – they need protection as they can no longer pursue their activities in their country of origin because of war, political persecution or censorship.

Supported by the French Ministry of Education and the EU, PAUSE encourages them to stay long enough for them to find employment, a home and continue their work.

This kind of programme is helping safeguard academic freedom in Europe, as its executive director Laura Lohéac explains.
